Accounting in High Definition
Because Activity has not been piecemealed like the software of all our competitors,
we can easily accomplish tasks that similar applications can only dream about. What
you will notice first about Activity is the presentation of data. We call it “Accounting
in High Definition”. This statement is meant to contrast the degree in which Activity
efficiently presents data to the user in difference to our competitors “rabbit ears”
presentation of data. The data presentation is detailed and spectacular.
Like HD TV – you see all the details to give your data a level of clarity unlike anything
you have experienced in accounting software. By not hiding data behind codes and
multiple layers of detail screens, your users have the tools to exponentially increase
their productivity. No more printing or waiting on IT to design a custom report
to obtain information. All the data (within a user’s security boundary) is available
to be sorted, filtered, and presented on their individual screen. The data viewed
can be customized according to each user’s needs. With the click of a button, data
can be captured and exported to a spreadsheet and imported right back into Activity.
With the Activity OAS interface almost anything can be imported from almost any
data source.
The Activity system is a framework. By designing the system as a framework
we can often answer “no limits” to most questions, where our competitors are constrained
because of hard coded attributes built into their software. Instead of the software
dictating how you run your business, we allow you to determine the flow of your
business and the software works with you.
The name Activity is derived from the
fact that the ‘active’ nature of the data base allows any changes to the data to
be instantaneously viewable to all users without having to do a screen refresh.
This means information being viewed on your screen is always current. If someone
changes data in the file you are viewing, those changes are automatically updated
on your screen in real time. The data you see is never stale. This is completely
different than browser based software that requires continual screen refreshes.
The difference in Activity and a browser based system can be dramatic. You can visualize
the difference if you think about the Microsoft Outlook email program. There are
actually two versions of this application, a browser based solution called Web-Based
Outlook and the familiar Outlook client that everyone uses. Some of you may never
have seen the Web-Based Outlook. The reason is that it is not popular and is typically
used only when traveling and there is no other alternative. It only shows a limited
view of your recent emails on the screen and has all the drawbacks of a web product:
constant refreshes and limited data presentation. This is how the software of our
competitors works, but not Activity.
Activity does not need totals in accumulators
(buckets), so that totals never become unbalanced with the underlying details. How
often in other software packages do the quarterly or year-to-date totals become
unbalanced with account details? This is never a problem with Activity because totals
are always calculated on-the-fly, never pulled from a bucket. The speed at which
data is calculated from the detail rivals any “bucket-based” (accumulators) system
because of the reliance of a modern high performance database system.
